Troubleshooting

Common issues and solutions when using Prismical.

Audio Not Being Captured

  • Ensure Prismical has permission to access system audio (check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone on macOS)
  • Verify your audio output device is correctly selected in Prismical settings
  • On macOS, Prismical uses a virtual audio driver — make sure it's installed (prompted on first launch)
  • Try restarting the app after changing audio settings

Poor Transcription Quality

  • Check that participants are using microphones (not laptop speakers at a distance)
  • Reduce background noise in the environment
  • Try a different transcription model — Parakeet may perform better than Whisper for certain accents, or vice versa
  • If using local models on older hardware, consider switching to a cloud provider for better accuracy
  • Verify the correct language is selected in Settings → Transcription

Local Models Running Slowly

  • Local transcription requires modern hardware: Apple Silicon (M1+) or a Windows PC with a CUDA-capable GPU
  • Close other resource-intensive apps during transcription
  • Switch to a smaller Whisper model (e.g., small instead of medium) for faster processing at the cost of some accuracy
  • Consider using a cloud provider (Deepgram, OpenAI, Assembly AI) if your hardware struggles

Cloud Provider Errors

  • Verify your API key is correct in Settings → Transcription
  • Check that your API key has sufficient credits/quota with the provider
  • Ensure you have internet connectivity
  • Try regenerating your API key from the provider's dashboard

Missing Action Items

  • Action items are extracted from conversational context. Be explicit about tasks and assignments.
  • Phrases like "John will..." or "We need to..." help the AI identify action items
  • Check the full transcript to verify the discussion was captured correctly

App Won't Launch

  • Ensure you're running a supported OS version (macOS 12+ or Windows 10+)
  • Try reinstalling from the latest release
  • Check if antivirus software is blocking Prismical
